Making calls

Everyone has an opinion on Pokémon cards. Who’s actually right?

By Rip & Hold · · 3 min read

Every Pokémon collector has a card they believe in. Maybe it’s an overlooked vintage holographic, a modern illustration rare, or a particular Pokémon that deserves more attention.

Collectors are constantly discussing which cards will rise in value, which are overhyped, and which are worth holding onto.

But there’s one problem. Nobody really keeps score.

1. The Pokémon community is full of predictions

Spend a few minutes browsing Pokémon collecting communities and you’ll find thousands of opinions.

Someone thinks Gengar VMAX is undervalued. Another collector believes vintage cards are due for a comeback. Someone else is convinced a particular set has already peaked.

These discussions are part of what makes the hobby interesting.

But most predictions get buried in comment sections, forgotten in group chats, or lost among thousands of social media posts.

What if there were a place to put those predictions on record?

2. Make your call: Buy, Hold, or Sell

Rip & Hold gives collectors a simple way to share their opinions about individual Pokémon cards.

On Rip & Hold, every prediction is a call:

  • Buy: you think the card’s price will rise.
  • Hold: you would keep the card. Hold calls are scored like Buy calls, so they gain when the price rises.
  • Sell: you think the card’s price will fall. Sell calls gain when it does.

You don’t need to own the card, purchase anything, or spend money to participate. A free account includes five active calls.

Just find a card and make your call.

3. See how your calls perform

It’s easy to say you knew a card would become valuable after its price has already increased.

Predicting it beforehand is another story.

Rip & Hold lets collectors build a record of their calls and follow how those calls perform over time. Each call is dated and records the exact printing and grade, the market price at the time, and any reasoning you add. Public calls lock once they are published, so nobody can quietly rewrite a call after the fact.

Made a Buy call before a card rose in value? You’ll have the record to show it.

Thought a popular card was overhyped? See whether your Sell call was right.

Over time, your calls tell a story about your collecting instincts.

4. Discover what other collectors think

Every collector sees the hobby differently.

Some specialize in vintage cards. Others follow modern releases, particular Pokémon, or obscure promotional cards.

Rip & Hold brings those opinions together.

Calls show which cards collectors are optimistic about, which ones draw skepticism, and where opinions split. With a free account, the Community feed shows other collectors’ public calls and their reasoning, and you can filter it by Buy, Hold, or Sell. Each card page also lists the public calls made on that card.

Instead of relying on a handful of loud voices, you can see what a wider group of collectors actually called, and when.

And sometimes, the crowd might be completely wrong.

5. A community built around the call

Rip & Hold isn’t about telling people which Pokémon cards to collect.

It’s about giving everyone a place to participate, share their calls, and see how their opinions hold up.

Whether you’re a lifelong collector, a casual fan, or someone who just discovered the hobby, your opinion counts.

You don’t need the biggest collection or the rarest cards.

You just need to make a call.

Make your call. See how it holds up.

At Rip & Hold, collectors make Buy, Hold, or Sell calls on Pokémon cards and track how those calls perform over time.

Buy. Hold. Sell.
